Program ContentBachelor of Digital Media Component (12 months full-time)Overview of the industry: This module surveys the structure and operation of the infotainment, edutainment and entertainment industries, the issues currently facing the industry and considers the policies and attitudes of the industry as they relate to the world market. Emphasis is places on developments in technology and changes in social structures. Contemporary issues: A key element in effective membership of the infotainment industry is the ability to identify, analyse and contribute intelligently to issues currently influencing the industry and the wider community. This module explores contemporary issues in ways which encourage students to take an active part in professional dialogue. Cultural Perspectives: This component of the program is aimed at providing aesthetic foundations and creative perspectives regarding design, story-telling, cultural ideas and techniques of expression. Business Planning and Management: Managing a small business requires a range of skills and attitudes in a number of areas. Of major importance are areas such as administration, finance, personnel, networking and forward planning. This module aims to provide students with a range of management skills relevant to working in the industry. Marketing, Promotion and Publicity (Music Business): A key element in any successful enterprise is the ability to promote, publicise and market the product or services provided. This module will provide students with a range of ideas and attitudes which will help them to develop successful projects by making them more effective in the fields of publicity and promotion. Copyright and Legal issues (Music Business): Students are able to understand their legal responsibilities associated with publishing creative work and make appropriate decisions to protect their rights and business efforts. Music Producers and Industry Personnel: Identify and discuss the key skills and characteristics of personnel in the infotainment industry with particular emphasis on record producers and music industry professionals and understand the workings of the music business. Education Applications: It is likely that graduates will engage in teaching others at some stage during their careers. In that context it is desirable that they have a basic understanding of the principles of teaching and learning, and of the processes of curriculum development and delivery. Industry Perspectives and issues: Students are required to think critically about the origins of the contemporary industry, the range of problems and operational issues confronting industry leaders, and to relate them to the general concerns and issues facing society today.
